Our responsible for R & D in Water and Environment and Doctor in Biological Sciences, Ramoni Sanchez Carmona, has published the white paper entitled “Effects of ultrasonic treatment on microalgae and some parameters of water quality in a pond used for irrigation“ (in Spanish) in collaboration with the Foundation Center of New Water Technologies (CENTA) in TecnoAqua, web portal of the water industry.
Ultrasound is a viable and efficient alternative to combat problems arising from the massive proliferation of algae. There are numerous scientific studies that have demonstrated their anti-algal effect, but they are scarce those realized in natural conditions and in real scale. In this joint work of Toscano and CENTA, the effects of an ultrasonic treatment in the presence of a bloom of Microcystis aeruginosa in an irrigation pond, that is developed in a natural phytoplankton community, are shown.
Ultrasonic technology is an effective anti-algae treatment and low cost, with great potential for irrigation water, as it reduces algal biomass and improves some parameters related to water quality. In this technical white paper new evidence of the application of ultrasonic technology is provided as an effective alternative in antialgae treatment under real conditions.
